Diversity matters

Conventional CVs/resumes often fail to holistically capture a candidate’s skills, abilities and experience, relying on a mere list of qualifications. Narrative CVs, however, offer an innovative departure from the conventional approach that delves deeper, incorporating a written narrative that depicts a candidate's unique story. Although narrative CVs have garnered substantial recognition in academic and creative domains, their potential influence on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) sparks an intriguing discussion.

In recent years, organizations have increasingly prioritized diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I). However, despite the growing attention, it is crucial to question whether we are adequately addressing the necessary elements for an effective DE&I strategy. In this guest blog, we emphasize the significance of inclusive recruitment for organizations, highlighting the need for a well-structured process that addresses candidates' questions and concerns about equity, diversity, and inclusion.

In 2022 alone 152,542 employees from 993 global tech companies were laid off and there has been great concern that the roles cut are disproportionately affecting underrepresented groups. These concerns are two-fold: The large number of DE&I roles hired in the pandemic appears to be the target of many of these cuts (with these departments accounting for around two-thirds of the cuts), and in general, research has shown that underrepresented groups have been the most affected in previous mass layoffs. This blog looks into the rise and fall of the DE&I role, and the implications this has for underrepresented groups.
