The Role
Are you ready to be at the heart of legal innovation and support a dynamic legal team in tackling complex issues across various sectors? We are on the lookout for a Legal Assistant who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about the role law plays in shaping business and society. In this crucial position, you will empower our legal team by managing critical documentation, facilitating research, and ensuring that all operations run smoothly and efficiently. This role offers a unique opportunity to enhance your legal skills through hands-on experience and ongoing professional development in a supportive and challenging environment within UK and U.S.
Responsibilities
-
Supporting Legal Counsel: Provide direct assistance to the Legal Counsel to ensure smooth daily operations. Act as the first point of contact for internal legal queries, escalating complex issues to the Legal Counsel.
-
Contract Management: Draft, review, and manage contracts such as client agreements, data processing agreements (DPAs), and vendor contracts. Track contract lifecycles, including renewals, amendments, and terminations.
-
Compliance and Data Protection: Assist in maintaining MeVitae’s compliance with data protection laws (e.g., GDPR) and support ongoing privacy initiatives. Help implement recommendations from audits (such as ISO27001 and SOC2) to ensure best practices in data governance and privacy. Monitor third-party compliance with contractual obligations related to data protection.
-
Legal Research: Conduct research on UK and U.S. laws affecting SaaS businesses, particularly in areas like intellectual property, employment law, and AI ethics. Stay updated on regulatory changes that may impact MeVitae’s operations.
-
Document Preparation: Draft and proofread legal documents such as non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), employment contracts, and internal policies. Prepare templates for frequently used documents to streamline processes.
-
Administrative Support: Organize and maintain legal files and records in compliance with confidentiality requirements. Schedule meetings for the Legal Counsel with internal teams or external stakeholders. Track deadlines for filings, contract reviews, or regulatory submissions.
-
Risk Management: Assist in identifying legal risks related to intellectual property infringement or non-compliance with AI-related regulations. Support the Legal Counsel in preparing risk assessments and mitigation strategies.
-
Client and Stakeholder Communication: Liaise with clients, partners, and external counsel on legal matters as directed by the Legal Counsel. Provide clear guidance on contractual terms or compliance requirements.
-
Litigation Support: Assist in preparing documentation for disputes or litigation involving intellectual property rights or regulatory issues. Coordinate with external counsel on case preparation when required.
Skills and Experience
-
Required Skills: Familiarity with UK-specific regulations such as GDPR, DPA18, intellectual property law, and SaaS-related legal frameworks.
-
Experienced: Previous experience working in a SaaS company or technology-focused business. Knowledge of AI ethics or regulations related to algorithmic bias (advantageous given MeVitae’s focus on ethical AI).
-
Organized and Detail-Oriented: You manage complexities with precision, keeping track of all details necessary to streamline operations and avoid oversight in a timely manner. Attention to detail for drafting accurate legal documents.
-
Dynamic and Interpersonal: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for liaising with internal teams and external stakeholders.
-
Passionate about Fairness: You bring a passion for enhancing diversity and inclusion within the workplace, driving change through strategic partnerships.
